Murata has become the first in the industry to mass-produce a miniaturized 0402-inch (1.0×0.5mm) multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) with a capacitance of 47uF.

In recent years, the deployment of high-performance IT equipment, including AI servers for data centers, has been accelerating. Since these devices incorporate numerous components, efficient placement on limited circuit board space is essential. Capacitors must not only meet demands for miniaturization and higher capacitance but also deliver high reliability in high-temperature environments caused by circuit board or chip heat.
To address these needs, Murata has developed proprietary ceramic dielectric materials and ultra-thin internal electrode layering technology, enabling mass production of this breakthrough MLCC—the first in the industry to achieve 47µF in an 0402-inch size. Compared to Murata’s previous 47µF capacitor (0603-inch), this product reduces mounting area by approximately 60%. Additionally, compared to Murata’s previous 0402-inch capacitor (22µF), this product offers about 2.1 times higher capacitance. Importantly, its ability to operate at up to 105°C allows placement near chips, enhancing the performance of customer products and devices.
Moving forward, Murata will continue advancing MLCC miniaturization, higher capacitance, and improved high-temperature resistance, expanding its product lineup to meet market demands and contribute to the miniaturization, higher performance, and multifunctionality of electronic devices. Furthermore, by reducing component size, minimizing material usage, and improving production efficiency per unit, Murata aims to lower power consumption in its factories and reduce environmental impact.
